NITTFEST 08 has come to and end. It was fun being a part of NITTFEST.
Day 2 of NITTFEST had a few major events which were Treasure Hunt, Movie Sppof and Manoranjan. Treasure hunt had Scavenging as the Preliminary round where all the teams had to collect various items mentioned in the list given to them. For the final round the teams will be given clues and a few tasks. The finals of this event is the same as Manthan – a event in Pragyan.
Movie Spoof was a extremely fun-filled event event.
Manoranjan – shortly called as Mano was the final On Stage event after which all the points were tallied and the overall results were announced. Manoranjan had some interesting performances by all depts.
After all the events got over the Music Troupe of NITT came on stage. They performed for some 45 minutes. It was an excellent show by them. The duration was so short that the audience were left asking for more. No one wanted to leave..!! BUT were forced to leave as the MT started packing their stuff..
ECE Dept has won it yet again. PROD Dept were second followed by EEE Dept at the Third Position.
NITTFEST is here. It is the Inter Department Culturals of NITT. It is the time when all depts start fighting for the top position. Each department tries to show its worth in the various competions organised by the organisation committee. This fest has become a platform for all the students to show their talents and innovation.
NITTFEST 08 was inaugrated yesterday evening in a fully packed BARN Hall. Soon after Inaugration we had the screening of the movies made for the Short Movie Making Contest.
Day 1 of NITTFEST had two BIG events – Tamil Street Play in the morning and Choreo Nite in the evening. Choreo Nite was one event which was eagerly awaited by all of us. Each dept had put in weeks of hard work and practice for the event.
The event was said to begin by 6pm. People started coming in large numbers to the BARN Hall by 5 45 itself. It took a long time for the judges to reach the college and the event began oly at around 6 40. All the teams performed extremely well. There was great coordination and great dance by almost all departments. We were simply spell bound by watching all the performances. And the CSG Team did a good work occuping the attention of the audience all the time by their work.
I should be mentioning about the hundreds of students who came our to barn just to cheer their department and encourage them. BARN was filled with noise. People shouting here and there about their departments.
It was fun.
Looking forward to Day 2.
As you can probably figure it out from the title of the post – I’m currently(6am to 7am) sitting in an almost deserted I lab (that is how we call our Internet Lab in NITT) except for a few enthusiastic first years getting up early in the morning. I’m not one of those students who get up early and come here. I belong to the other elite category. “We people don’t sleep in the night.”
(Tonight {or maybe early today morning} we were playing DotA in Lab 1. Time went on. Game after game.)
Why is the I lab so deserted in the morning?
It is around 7am now. Students here( or maybe anywhere) generally don’t get up before 8am or 9am. And people getting up is most unlikely if it happens to be a Sunday.
** For those who don’t know – Our Internet lab is open from morning 6am to 00hrs. Earlier it used to be 24hrs but they reduced the time because they felt that we were wasting time on the net.
(.. !!! ((It does happen.. We ‘Gamers of NITT’ used to come here at 1am or 2am to play here coz the computers here are a bit more faster than the ones in the other labs..:-))
Who comes here so early in the morning?
- People as jobless as me.
- People who download huge files. Usually these people start the download when they leave the lab. They just switch off the monitor and then they return in the morning to take the downloaded files.
It is actually a very good idea especially if you need to download some important things overnight.
- A few first year students who have to go to the hostel early in the night due to the curfew imposed on them. They come early to compensate for the time lost. Jobless guys..
…
- Guys who want good internet speed. The speed is exceptionally high when the lab is almost empty. Photos, videos and most webpages open in a second. That is not so when the lab is fully occupied.
Anyway it was needless for me to observe the I Lab in the early hours of a day and write a pretty unnecessary post like this.!! Anyway it is a good time pass. In I Lab people won’t feel bored with such a reasonably good speed and a wonderful freedom.
This year’s Pragyan was the second one which I’m a part of. This year’s Pragyan was action packed and had guest lectures by many eminent personalities. Packed with workshops, guest lectures and other events this year’s Pragyan was incredible. The dust has finally settled and the memories will remain forever.
I was a part of the organization committee for last year’s Pragyan (Snacks committee) and didn’t have much time to participate in events or attend any guest lectures. The worst part is that we did not even get our certificates for all the hard work we had done. So this year a few of us planned not to join the Organization committee and tried our luck at participation. We registered for many events and workshops in advance and waited for this year’s Pragyan. My friend Jay came from Chennai to attend Pragyan and for exploring NITT and stayed with me for a few days.
Unfortunately we missed the prelims of a few events like Circuitrix and Junkyard Wars due to sudden and unforeseen delays. We wrote the prelims of Dexter’s lab and Manthan during Pragyan. We also participated in Sanrachana where we made ‘the bowling machine’. We also participated in Adrenaline – DotA Competition.
We qualified for the finals in Manthan. The team consisted TV Karthik, Somanaathan and me. Incidentally we three formed the team for Aero Modeling in Anna University’s Kurukshetra. So we named our team ‘Gliders’ for this event. Manthan is a treasure hunt competition in which 6 teams were selected from around hundreds of teams. (Ours was the only second year team.
.. ) We were asked to solve a problem and also solve a clue given to identify the next destination. After we reach that place we were asked to do some arbitrary task like connecting a disassembled clock, bell, night lamp, solve sudokus, play minesweeper, etc,.. After doing some such task we were asked to solve the next set of questions and go to the next location. It was fun doing such things. But unfortunately we did not finish in the first three teams due to time difference. Other teams seem to have finished in seconds.
Anyway, its all in the game..
We spent another bulk of our time attending various workshops like the Robotics workshop by Amir Shapiro and the Ham Radio Workshop. The infotainment event – Robotics Display was the best. Though I couldn’t watch it fully (due to my dota game) it was great.
Our DotA clan which we have named SpEX[:-)] participated in the dota competition and went on to the quarter finals. A new clan called the ‘Guardians’ came from Chennai and walked away with the prizes. They are a cool gang of guys who seemed to have practiced on battle.net and played in a way very different from the way we used to play. Anyway it was good experience playing Dota in Pragyan.
Another important thing to say – This year’s Dalal street wasn’t a big hit as last year’s due to a few bugs.
Note : – We haven’t received our certificates for the event Manthan yet. (And we hope to get it as soon as possible and not miss it as we did for last year’s organisation committee).
Pragyan was fun and it will remain etched in our memories forever.
Sensors is the National Level Technical symposium conducted by the Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering of NIT Trichy. Generally conducted in the even semester of the year, it is fully organized and managed by students just as any other major event of the campus. The only difference is that this event is done by students of a specific department and Sensors is managed by my department guys.
I got an opportunity to be a part of the design team this year. I was involved in designing various items like banners, posters, ID cards, and various other things. My school senior Vinod was the Vice-Chairman of the event. As it was said earlier by the seniors I got a wonderful chance to interact with seniors and learnt a lot in this short duration. We worked hard in making the event a success. We got to know each other and it was two days of fun and excitement.
Festember, as in mentioned in one of my previous posts is one of NIT Trichy’s most happening event. This time I was a part of it. We participated in the gaming tournaments and also enjoyed watching various other competitions conducted in our campus. It was an enriching experience and was full of fun. I’m already excited about next year’s event. Here are a few pics which I clicked during the event.

Festember 07 is the Inter College Literary and Cultural Festival of National Institute of Technology, Trichy. The fest is slated to begin on 20th September and will go on for four days. It is one of the biggest fest of its kind.
This edition promises to eclipse its earlier editions as always. There are a variety of events being organised in this edition of Festember.Click Here to view the event lists. The events include Cultural events, Arts events, Literary Events, Informals and various Workshops.

Festember 07 will have Kay Kay coming for a live performance to NIT,Trichy.
Tour de NITT – It is a cycling tournament which we (that is, Wisdom Club) conducted exclusively for our batch students. It included variations like relay racing, slow cycling, Path of Pain(an obstacle path) and Campus Tour.

You can see a few of the pictures which we took during the event. Click here to view the remaining.
Its been a year since I joined this Institute. One year has passed so fast- almost like a lightning. So many things had occurred in the past year. Looking back into the previous year in this college, here are a few things I wanted to write about.
Friends are the greatest asset I have gained in NIT Trichy. I’ve gained a lot of new friends here. I’ve done a lot of things in the past one year. Blogging, LAN Games, playing TT, etc were completely new to me when I came to NITT.
Communication… Well. Believe me I never used to talk to anyone in School even as I do now. I’ve improved a lot after coming here. In NITT I got a great chance to interact with others. I stay in the hostel with hundreds of students, playing, studying and doing all crazy things. I got to interact with everyone through my club, the mafia game, interaction parties, etc. I got inducted into my Club – Wisdom Club of NITT in early first semester. Through this club I got a great chance to interact with seniors and others batchmates. Our club conducted sports competitions which was named ‘Blitzkrieg’. It was conducted by the first year club members exclusively for the first year students. This too gave me a chance to make more friends.
Blogging is a great medium to express your thoughts and make yourself known to others. Even though I was a member of Blogger.com and had a Blog, I didn’t write anything in it. It was only after reading a few of my college senior’s blogs that i really got interested in this. Then I started Google-ing (New Google Blog Search) and Orkut-ing for reading various new and interesting blogs. After all this I’ve started posting my own junk in around 4 or 5 blogs.
I did play a lot in this year. We used to play TT most of the time. Occasionally I went to play either volley ball or shuttle. I used to swim a lot in our college swimming pool in the first semester. In the second semester the pool was closed due to some contract problem. I got interested in TT when we conducted the Blitzkrieg Tournament in the the first semester. After the tournament ended Me and Somu went to play TT each and everyday- both morning and evening. Then a few more guys joined us and we used to play like mad.
In the second semester, we had the national level tech fest – “Pragyan”. I was a volunteer in this fest. I was assigned the snacks committee job. We had a lot of exposure to the activities done in NITT and also various new things. I attended various guests lectures and video conferences. This year’s Pragyan had the improvised version of the Dalal Street – an online game which was similar to the real stock market. In this game we are given virtual money, which we got to invest in virtual company stocks and make profit.
A few weeks later the inter-department culturals NITTFEST started. I was the volunteer for organizing LAN Games. I accepted this as I was interested in these games. This is what made me hooked on to the games. After this we started to play DotA in Octa lab2 which became our abode for the rest of the days. Playing games in the LAN with friends is far more better than playing with the ‘Crazy-Player’. This gave a great chance for me to make new friends.
During these vacations I spent the initial few days roaming Chennai and then going to Mumbai and then to Madurai. For the past few days I’m on a hibernation. Sitting idle in front of the computer. I’m looking forward to be back in college. Lets see how the next year shapes up.
